A transplant coordinator is a person who a healthcare professional involved in activities related to organ donation and transplant. A transplant coordinator evaluates and prepares patients for organ transplantation and is also responsible for long-term management of patients after transplant. They also manage living organ donation and transplantation, deceased organ/tissue donation, retrieval, storage, transport and transplantation, and are involved in organ donation awareness related initiatives.
Their work also includes managing with the medical panel for brain-stem death certification, bringing together with various organ retrieval teams, engaging with the police in medico-legal cases, assisting with post-mortem formalities, post donation follow up of families of deceased donors, writing press notes, and compiling reports and data for the state regulatory authority and the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), Government of India.
After doing the transplant coordinator course one can work as a coordinator in various transplant cases wherein the coordinator or manager is responsible for coordinating and manging all activities related to organ transplant between the donor and the recipient till the transplant procedure is complete.
The salary average range is from 2.5 lk to 3.5 lk per annum
Candidates who are class 12th pass out can opt for this course as this is a great career opportunity in healthcare as it is estimated that by 2028 we would require more than 3,71,500 transplant coordinators in India
