Low vision and blindness are corrective impairment which has a large burden on our societies today almost. 85% of visual impairment and 75 % of blindness is treatable. The requirement of optometrists alone in India is 1,16,000 optometrists whereas it currently has only 9000 graduates and 30,000 diploma holder optometrists in the country. Optometrists are trained allied healthcare professionals who assist an ophthalmologist and are involved in diagnosing and correcting refractive errors. They are also involved in providing rehabilitation to patients post-surgery, especially in cases of cataract surgery. They are also trained to provide basic treatment for certain eye diseases.

After completing this course you can start your career as an optometrist, ophthalmologist or as Optician. One can also opt for taking up a master's and PhD in optometry and also go for teaching and research-based jobs.
